The <a href=\"https:\/\/cloud.google.com\/blog\/products\/workspace\/introducing-google-workspace\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announcement<\/a> signaled Google\u2019s desired direction: a unified workspace. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tkqlhce.com\/b681biroiq5766B8AF87579EDCA7E?sid=EG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener sponsored noreferrer\">Google Workspace<\/a> pricing, however, sends a more significant signal than the renaming of Google\u2019s current app offerings.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a look at the current <a href=\"https:\/\/workspace.google.com\/pricing.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Google Workspace plans and pricing<\/a>, along with key features you might consider when selecting a plan.<\/p>\n<p>Jump to:<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"plans\">Plans and pricing for Google Workspace<\/h2>\n<h3>Google Workspace\u2019s plans<\/h3>\n<p>Google Workspace now offers three Business plans \u2014 Starter, Standard and Plus \u2014 and two Enterprise plans \u2014 Standard and Plus (<strong>Figure A<\/strong>). An additional option, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techrepublic.com\/article\/how-to-use-google-workspace-essentials-starter-free\/\">Google Workspace Essentials Starter<\/a>, allows teams of up to 25 people to use Google\u2019s collaboration tools, such as Google Docs, alongside an existing email and calendar collaboration system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Figure A<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4017284\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4017284\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-article wp-image-4017284\" src=\"http:\/\/cloudnewshub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/choosing-the-right-google-workspace-plan-for-your-organization-1.jpg\" alt=\"Google Workspace offers three Business plans with published pricing and two Enterprise plans.\" width=\"770\" height=\"463\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4017284\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Google Workspace offers three Business plans with published pricing and two Enterprise plans.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>Pricing for Google Workspace Business plans<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Google Workspace Business Starter:<\/strong> $6 per user per month<\/li>\n<li><strong>Google Workspace Business Standard:<\/strong> $12 per user per month<\/li>\n<li><strong>Google Workspace Business Plus:<\/strong> $18 per user per month<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Pricing for Google Workspace Enterprise plans<\/h3>\n<p>Pricing for Enterprise plans is not published. As a legacy customer, when I walked through the upgrade process, the offers I saw included the following; the per user pricing Google offers your organization for Enterprise plans may be different.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Google Workspace Enterprise Standard:<\/strong> $20 per user per month<\/li>\n<li><strong>Google Workspace Enterprise Plus:<\/strong> $30 per user per month<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Google requires that new customers who seek Enterprise licenses contact Sales. Note that there is no minimum or maximum number of users for Enterprise plans.<\/p>\n<p>Google provides a <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/a\/answer\/10078573\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">comparison page<\/a> with an overview that compares legacy G Suite Basic and Business plans to currently offered Business Starter, Standard and Plus plans (<strong>Figure B<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Figure B<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4017288\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4017288\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-article wp-image-4017288\" src=\"http:\/\/cloudnewshub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/choosing-the-right-google-workspace-plan-for-your-organization-2.jpg\" alt=\"For current G Suite customers, Google provides a detailed comparison of G Suite Basic and Business bundles to the three Google Workspace Business plans.\" width=\"770\" height=\"566\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4017288\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">For current G Suite customers, Google provides a detailed comparison of G Suite Basic and Business bundles to the three Google Workspace Business plans.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Current customers can either remain on a prior plan, such as G Suite Basic, Business or Enterprise, through the terms of the plan or choose to switch to a new Workspace plan. Prior G Suite Education and Nonprofit plan customers may move to similar Google Workspace for Education or Google Workspace for Nonprofits editions.<\/p>\n<p>The adjusted prices align Google Workspace pricing more closely with <a href=\"https:\/\/fave.co\/3RssykE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener sponsored noreferrer\">Microsoft 365<\/a>. For example, Microsoft lists pricing for its 365 Business offerings as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Microsoft 365 Business Basic:<\/strong> $6 per user per month<\/li>\n<li><strong>Microsoft 365 Business Standard:<\/strong> $12.50 per user per month<\/li>\n<li><strong>Microsoft 365 Business Premium:<\/strong> $22 per user per month<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"key\">Key features of some Google Workspace and G Suite plans<\/h2>\n<p>The following analysis compares key features of Business Starter, Business Standard and Business Plus plans with legacy G Suite Basic and Business plans.<\/p>\n<h3>User limits<\/h3>\n<p>The Google Workspace Business plans all add one key constraint not previously present in prior G Suite plans: a maximum of 300 users. If you need more than 300 user accounts, you\u2019ll need an Enterprise plan. Microsoft similarly sets a limit of 300 user accounts on its Microsoft 365 Business plans.<\/p>\n<h3>Storage limits<\/h3>\n<p>Per user limits for Google Workspace Business storage plan are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>30GB per user for Business Starter<\/li>\n<li>2TB per user for Business Standard<\/li>\n<li>5TB per user for Business Plus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Unlimited storage is now available only with Workspace Enterprise plans.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SEE: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.techrepublic.com\/article\/3-essential-things-need-know-google-workspace-storage\/\"><strong>Google Workspace storage: 3 essential things you need to know<\/strong><\/a><strong> (TechRepublic)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All files created, added or modified after June 1, 2021, count toward a user\u2019s storage limit. Historically, G Suite Basic and G Suite Business allowed an administrator to prevent external file sharing.<\/p>\n<h3>Google Meet recording<\/h3>\n<p>Business Standard and Business Plus add the ability to record and save Google Meet video conferences. While Google had made recording available to G Suite users in support of COVID-19 work-from-home initiatives, recording had not been a standard benefit of either G Suite Basic or G Suite Business plans.<\/p>\n<p>The maximum number of Google Meet participants for the plans are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>100 people for Business Starter<\/li>\n<li>150 people for Business Standard<\/li>\n<li>500 people for Business Plus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Google\u2019s feature comparison page lists several Meet features, such as polling and Q&amp;A and breakout rooms, all of which require a Business Standard or better account. Business Plus and better plans also support attendance tracking in Meet.<\/p>\n<h3>E-discovery and retention<\/h3>\n<p>Google Vault is the organization\u2019s offering to support administrative e-discovery and data retention. Only Business Plus includes Google Vault; although, organizations on Starter and Standard may select Vault as a paid add-on. When I browsed through my offered pricing, Vault displayed a $5 per user per month add-on price. Historically, the G Suite Business plan included Google Vault.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"choose\">How to choose a new Google Workspace plan<\/h2>\n<p>If you\u2019re a new customer, your task is relatively simple. Define your needs, select the plan that best fits the balance of your needs and your budget, then help people in your organization <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techrepublic.com\/article\/5-steps-to-help-your-users-get-started-with-google-workspace\/\">get started with Workspace<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you have been a G Suite or Google Workspace customer, an administrator can sign in to the Admin console to access account options. To do this, the admin would sign in at <a href=\"https:\/\/admin.google.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/admin.google.com<\/a>, select the three-horizontal line menu in the upper left corner, then choose Billing, and select Get More Services from the sub-menu.<\/p>\n<p>If you are a current customer, the Google Admin Get More Services page highlights available Google Workspace plans (<strong>Figure C<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Figure C<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4017287\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4017287\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-article wp-image-4017287\" src=\"http:\/\/cloudnewshub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/choosing-the-right-google-workspace-plan-for-your-organization-3.jpg\" alt=\"The Google Admin console displays Google Workspace plan options.\" width=\"770\" height=\"495\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4017287\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Google Admin console displays Google Workspace plan options.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Select any of the options, and the system will display the details of key features your account will either gain or lose. Select your option, address any identified issues and follow any step-by-step instructions to switch.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"update\">How to update G Suite Business to a Google Workspace plan<\/h2>\n<p>In recent years, I\u2019ve been on the G Suite Business plan, which was $12 per user per month. Here\u2019s how I considered the three new Workspace options.<\/p>\n<p>First, I could choose to spend the same amount: $12 per user per month for Google Workspace Business Standard (<strong>Figure D<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Figure D<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4017286\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4017286\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-article wp-image-4017286\" src=\"http:\/\/cloudnewshub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/choosing-the-right-google-workspace-plan-for-your-organization-4.jpg\" alt=\"For my G Suite Business account, the Admin console detailed the specific features that would change.\" width=\"770\" height=\"488\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4017286\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">For my G Suite Business account, the Admin console detailed the specific features that would change.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Google labeled this a downgrade, since I would be allowed fewer users (300, not unlimited) and less storage (2TB per user, not unlimited), and I would lose Google Vault, access to data regions, endpoint management features and more.<\/p>\n<p>Second, I could choose to spend more: $18 per user per month for Google Workspace Business Plus. I would be allowed fewer users (300, not unlimited) and less storage (5TB per user, not unlimited).<\/p>\n<p>Third, I could choose to spend $20 per user, per month for Google Workspace Enterprise Standard. With this option, I kept the ability to add unlimited users, have unlimited storage, and gain some security controls.<\/p>\n<p>I upgraded to Enterprise Standard, because I value access to enterprise features for my writing and work. Organizations on other plans will have different considerations and priorities.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re an admin managing Google Workspace plans, this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techrepublic.com\/resource-library\/whitepapers\/cloud-computing-policy\/\">Cloud Computing Policy from TechRepublic Premium<\/a> might come in handy.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"what\">What do you think of these Google Workspace plans?<\/h2>\n<p>It will be interesting to see the reaction of savvy IT adopters who selected G Suite or Google Apps in the past precisely because Google allowed an unlimited number of users for all paid plans.
