{"id":32912,"date":"2019-03-05T06:44:42","date_gmt":"2019-03-05T06:44:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cbronline.com\/?p=324476"},"modified":"2019-03-05T06:44:42","modified_gmt":"2019-03-05T06:44:42","slug":"cisco-consortium-launches-memoo-5g-connected-cows-application","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cloudnewshub.com\/?p=32912","title":{"rendered":"Cisco Consortium Launches \u201cMe+Moo\u201d \u2013 5G Connected Cows Application"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"media_block\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbronline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/cows1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cloudnewshub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/cisco-consortium-launches-memoo-5g-connected-cows-application.png\" class=\"media_thumbnail\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p>5G RuralFirst, a consortium led by Cisco, today released Me+Moo, a smartphone app that lets you choose your own &#8220;connected&#8221; cow (replete with a sensor-laden collar) and receive daily updates about your bovine friend of choice.<\/p>\n<p>The project is not an act of whimsy: it is part of efforts to\u00a0create (and drum up interest in) rural test-beds and trials for 5G wireless and mobile connectivity across three main sites in the Orkney Islands, Shropshire, and Somerset.<\/p>\n<p>The 5G cows project is partly funded by the UK Government\u2019s Department for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport (DCMS) as part of its wider 5G Testbed and Trial programme.<\/p>\n<p>Partners include the University of Strathclyde,\u00a0BBC, the Agricultural Engineering Precision Innovation Centre, Orkney Islands Council and Scottish Futures Trust.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-324484 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/cloudnewshub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/cisco-consortium-launches-memoo-5g-connected-cows-application-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" \/>5G: The Cows are Getting it First<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The app is an educational tool &#8220;suitable for everyone from cow enthusiasts to tech-heads and agricultural workers&#8221; the 5G RuralFirst consortium said in a release today.<\/p>\n<p>Those downloading can choose a cow from among the\u00a0a 180-strong herd run on a commercial basis at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.agri-epicentre.com\/facilities\/south-west-dairy-development-centre\/\">Agri-EPI Centre<\/a> in Somerset.\u00a0This is a heavily automated dairy farm (featuring robotised milking and an automated feed &#8220;kitchen&#8221;) that also functions as an R&amp;D hub for agricultural technology.<\/p>\n<p>(Among its projects are\u00a0tests of an emerging system called\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.milkalyser.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Milkalyser<\/a>\u00a0that measures milk progesterone levels to map the overall ovulation cycle of each cow.)<\/p>\n<h3><strong>5G Cows Project: What does Me+Moo do?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;Once a cow has been selected, app users will receive regular updates on everything from how the cows are eating to how they are sleeping using the data collected by 5G technology.
